Moving to a new country brings excitement, challenges, and the opportunity to experience a completely new way of life. As an expat, I’ve learned that no matter where I am, I can always feel God’s presence, guiding me through each new culture and unfamiliar environment. In this post, I want to share how God’s omnipresence has played a central role in my journey abroad.

When I first arrived in China, everything was different—the language, the food, the way people lived their lives. It was overwhelming at first. However, I quickly realized that no matter how far away I was from home, I was never truly alone.

Scripture for Reflection:

Genesis 28:15 – “I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go.”

Adjusting to a New Culture

Living in a foreign country is a unique experience. Every day presents new challenges—language barriers, cultural misunderstandings, and homesickness. But amidst all the differences, I have found that God’s presence is constant, comforting me through each new encounter.

Finding Community in a Foreign Land

One of the greatest joys and challenges of living abroad is finding a community that feels like home. Through churches, volunteer opportunities, and new friendships, I’ve come to understand that God’s presence is often felt through the people we meet. They become our family, even if we’re thousands of miles from our biological ones.

Points to Pack

For those living abroad, it can be easy to feel disconnected. Here are a few tips that have helped me stay spiritually grounded:

  1. Stay Connected with Your Faith: Find a local church or online spiritual community where you can feel supported.
  2. Daily Reflections: Set aside time each day for prayer or scripture reading. It doesn’t need to be long, but it’s important to stay connected with your spiritual journey.
  3. Create a Routine: Establish a sense of normalcy. Whether it’s morning walks, cooking familiar meals, or staying in touch with loved ones back home, small routines bring comfort.
